Melbourne Landmarks Exhibition by Young & Percival

Brought to life inside the 1890’s Rialto building, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto has released “The Gallery”, a space which showcases some of Melbourne’s most iconic landmarks, icons and seascapes by current artists in residence, award winning photographers Steve Young and Glen Percival, the creative duo behind Young & Percival.

The Gallery is a quiet space where guests are able to escape, admire and also purchase any of the showcased pieces through the hotel’s online store.

About Young:
Steve Young and Glen Percival’s partnership has enjoyed two distinct phases over the past 20 years, formerly as a noisy 3-piece rock/punk outfit in Sydney and now for the past 8 years as a successful commercial photographic enterprise based here in Melbourne.

These images have been combined to make the unique “Melbourne Landmarks” exhibition and are but a few shot over the past 7 years, dated from 2012 to today. Steve is no stranger to the art of photography, having won several architectural photography awards and most notably winning the 2017 Aria Award for Best Cover Art featured on Paul Kelly’s #1 album Life is Fine, which he curated alongside art director and designer, Peter Salmon-Lomas.

Steve was also the winner of the People’s Choice Award 2019 apart of the Martin Kantor Portrait Prize held at this year’s Ballarat International Foto Bienalle. Steve Young and Glen Percival launched their commercial photographic company Young & Percival in 2012. After several years of award winning commercial photographic work across the country, they welcomed the opportunity with open arms to exhibit their iconic Melbourne landmarks, inside one of Melbourne’s most iconic landmarks.

About Percival:
Glen and Steve met in ’97, working within a 5 star hotel based in Sydney. Little did they know this would be the start of a lifelong appreciation of hotel hospitality and it’s many intricacies which has served them well in fine tuning their expertise in hospitality photography.

Glen bought a dodgy white Stratocaster guitar copy from Steve which started a 10 year partnership of writing and playing music as a raucous 3 piece in various iconic Sydney pubs with some great bands and on much better guitars…!

The move of both families to Melbourne, in 2006 and 2007 respectively, has been hugely beneficial and pivotal to lifestyle and business happiness, enhanced by a long standing appreciation for Melbourne. The images featured in this gallery are from that time to now. They hold the story of a younger duo who started their careers in hotel banquets, to becoming award winning photographers shooting for hotels, nationally and internationally.

Sometimes a birds eye view from a chopper on the way to a shoot, to a random snap as they wander the streets in search of other unique things would catch their eyes.
Glen enjoys shooting landmarks for a living, but he is also intrigued by negative space, as showcased in “Melbourne Skyline – 2019”.

Melbourne Landmarks Exhibition by Young & Percival is currently on display for a limited time, located at InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto. Entry into The Gallery is free of charge.
