Thirty Portraits in Thirty Days
Wonderment Walk’s 30/30 Project by Vincent Fantuauzzo is currently adorning the walls of The Brick Wall Gallery at InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto.
The project is unique in that Vincent painted 30 portraits of famous Australians in 30 days. The subjects are from a diverse selection of fields from politics to sports and the arts. Former PM Bob Hawke sits alongside film director Baz Luhrmann, AFL legend Ron Barassi and actress Asher Keddie (Vincent’s wife).
Vincent is renowned his portrait work and has won many accolades including the People’s Choice Award at the Archibald Prize (four times). We asked Vincent a few questions about his favourite portrait, what he learnt about Melbourne and what we should order when visiting his venue Harley House on Collins Street.
From The 30/30 project, which is your favourite portrait?
I can’t choose one as they are all special in their own way. However, there were personal stories that had a great impact on me such as Layne Beachley. I felt very privileged for her to trust and share her story.
What new insights did you find out about Melbourne during the project?
Many of the subjects believe Melbourne had an impact on their success and felt passionate about giving back to the City.
You spend a bit of time travelling. What’s the first thing that you like to do when visiting a destination?
Order a drink!
As well as being an artist, you own Harley House on Collins Street. What’s a must try on the menu for our guests?
Ceviche Mixto De Mercado. It’s a mix of local white fish, prawns, squid octopus tigers milk and it’s gluten free.
