First of its kind at the InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto, we bring a new concept of art and luxury. Commencing in July inaugural artist-in-residence, Spencer Harrison, will be transforming the hotel’s Art Space (located on lobby level) with a vibrant new wall painting.

Taking inspiration from the geometric forms of the Rialto building’s heritage neo-gothic façade, this artwork explores the dynamic of ‘old meets new’. Featuring Harrison’s distinctive approach to colour, this work will be contrasting the historic colours of the hotel’s architecture with the luminous hues of the modern-day city that surround it.

The title of Harrison’s artwork, ‘Far Away Places,’ refers to the concept of travel through both time and space addressing architecture, the influence of various historical periods on the Rialto building, highlighting the many travelers who visit, and how art can open minds to new perspectives and experiences.

Upon completion Harrison will add to his showcase at the hotel, a collection of new artworks from his studio that explore the dynamic interplay between abstraction and the contemporary world.
