Australian International Airshow 2017
2017 AFL Season
Grand Prix in Melbourne
The excitement starts on Thursday March 23rd with support races and F1 engines will start revving for the first time for two practice sessions on the Friday. The final practice session will take place on Saturday afternoon but the real test starts at 5pm with qualifying. The race starts with lights out at 4pm on Sunday where 20 drivers in 10 teams have 58 laps to prove their greatness.
The first grand prix in Melbourne was held in 1996 after the location of the Australian grand prix moved from Adelaide. The event is always a highlight on the Melbourne sporting calendar for car racing lovers and novice attendees alike due to the range of thrilling events on and off the track.
In addition to Formula 1, across the weekend spectators can also view support races in the Porsche Carrera Cup and Supercars Challenge championships. Other fun on track events are the Ultimate Speed Comparison where they pit a Mercedes Benz AMG road car, Mercedes Benz AMG race car and a two-seater Formula 1 car against each other. The faster cars are given a time handicap and then let loose to chase each other down. Also, the Shannons Historic Demonstration takes place on each of the four days and sees a diverse collection of classic and historic race cars hit the Albert Park track.
The Australian grand prix is not just for those who are fans of Formula 1 or motorsport, there is a variety of off track entertainment. Visit M-Lane to enjoy a very Melbourne experience and recharge with a collection of food trucks, street art and live music. Make sure to check out the Industry and Innovation Precinct, Australian Defence Force Ground Display, and don’t forget to look up for the RAAF Aerial displays.
