Australian Open 2017
Each year the giants of tennis descend on Melbourne for the ultimate summer sports tournament, the Australian Open.
In 2017, top seeded players such as Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Angelique Kerber, Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal will be hitting the courts plus home-grown favourites Sam Stosur, Dasha Gavrilova, Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic.
In addition to the on court action, there is great entertainment through the two week event. AO Open Sessions feature live music from the likes of Missy Higgins, Birds of Tokyo and The Temper Trap and the AO Festival returns for another year with dining and entertainment spread over three terraces, from food trucks to massages.

KFC Big Bash League Cricket (BBL)
December 20 to January 28
This six week long tournament pits eight city based Australian Twenty20 cricket teams against each other. In addition to fast paced Twenty20 cricket BBL also features music, fireworks and other entertainment to make it a great night out.
The Book of Mormon
January to June
Written by the creators of South Park and the winner of nine Tony Awards and a Grammy Award, the play follows two Mormon missionaries into an isolated village in Uganda. The musical premiered on the West End and has since staged two national tours in America. Opening in Melbourne at the Princess Theatre this January.
Chinese New Year
January 27 to February 12
Watch the city come alive in colour to celebrate the start of the Year of the Rooster. Celebrations will centre in four precincts across the city: Docklands, Queensbridge, Queen Victoria Market and the Yarra River. From dragon boat racing and tai chi to night markets and performances by the National Ballet of China there is something for everyone to enjoy and experience a slice of Chinese culture.
