Did you know?
The first successful hot air balloon venture was by two brothers in Paris in 1783. The balloon was made from paper and silk and floated for 23 minutes over 8 kilometres. Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier are recorded as the first humans to fly!
Hot air ballooning was first recorded in Victoria in 1858, in a 25 minute flight in Richmond.
With the invention of propane burners in the 1960s, hot air ballooning is now a more practical and safe form of flying and the last 60 years have seen many advancements in the craft. However, a lot of the guiding principles from that flight in Paris in 1783 are still used.
